THE ISAAC C. GRISWOLD LIBRARY BUILDING
Mrs. Edward P. Manville bequeathed her family home on Williams Street to the village be used as a Library. Included in her bequest were funds for remodeling and maintaining the building. Prior to Mrs. Manville's generous bequest, the library collection was housed on the second floor of the Village Building. The Griswold Building was able to house not only a generous book collection, but a children's collection, and space for meeting rooms and the local history collection maintained by the Whitehall Historical Society.
VOULUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
The excellent and friendly services of the Library would not be possible without the dedication and skill of the volunteers who help at the circulation desk, shelve books, and help to maintain the library. BEST SELLERS
The library staff prides itself in it's acquisitions of titles on the best seller list. The Post Star's list is posted weekly and titles are prominently displayed. In addition to acquisitions, the library receives frequent bulk loans from the Southern Adirondack Library System of current popular titles.
THE CHILDREN'S LIBRARY
The Children's Library offers a variety of picture books, fiction and non-fiction books, books-on-tape, magazines and videos for children of all ages. The library offers a variety of Children's Programs on Saturday mornings. Storytellers, authors of children's books, and nutrition teachers from Cornell Cooperative Extension all come to the Children's Library.
GETTING A LIBRARY CARD
A Whitehall Free Library card can be used in all public libraries that are members of the Southern Adirondack Library System. A library card application may be completed at any time during the library's open hours. Adults must show name and address identification and children will need a parent's signature to complete the application process. The card is FREE to any resident of the town of Whitehall. You may borrow up to three items on your first visit, or one multi-volume set of audio or video cassettes containing more than five items.
